SW 193rd Lane at SW 51st Manor, Southwest Ranches, FL 33332
The 30-acre Frontier Trails parcel was actually located within an adjacent City. Originally platted at 1 dwelling unit per acre, the potential of higher density development in the neighboring City prompted the Town’s purchase in order to insure that any future development would be kept to at least that minimum. Following our purchase, residents made it clear that their preference was for open space and natural enhancements, rather than residential development. Generous grants from the Florida Communities Trust and from Broward County’s Open Space program allowed the Town to go forward with plans for creating a conservation area and passive recreational space for all to enjoy. The amenities planned in this location include trails, wetlands with native plantings to foster a rookery for native birds, and preservation of an existing archeological site.
When developed, this park will include approximately 26 acres of restored wetland, a significant amount to assist native and migratory species. Passive recreational amenities will include nature observation areas; a multi-use trail; and preservation / education surrounding the site’s archaeological significance.
